A number of US-based media outlets have reported that Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe has published a report uncovering significant Chinese attempts to interfere in the outcome of the US elections that took place last November. The report that has not been flagged by major US and international media has raised questions over the approach media takes as it tackles the recent US elections; especially when compared with the 2016 elections.

According to trendingpolitics.com, the report highlights major efforts by the Chinese government to affect the results of the federal elections that were held in the first week of November 2020. The online report argues that the CIA management "pressured lower-level analysts to discount this assessment."

However, experts noted that Ratcliffe's report has been ignored by many Americans, especially ones who are not in favor of the outgoing US president Donald Trump, who has lost his chance for a second term in the White House.

Social media users shared the report across platforms questioning the reason "it has not been discussed by mainstream media;" suggesting that political bias might have affected media coverage. Some commentators noted that allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 elections which was won by Trump were taken more seriously and prompted several legal probes ever since, unlike the current claim which hasn't been reported enough.

Over the last few weeks, political tensions in the US have been higher than ever, especially following an insurrection carried out by Trump supporters on the 6th of January as the Congress was gathering to certify election results in preparation to announce Joe Biden as the 45th US President. Since that day, in which 5 individuals lost their lives, all social media networks have permanently banned the US President from posting any updates to his followers, after accusing him of inciting the violence that led to the Capitol riots.

Similarly, Trump supporters have been accusing social media and media networks of working against Trump and his fan base, mostly by being biased against Trump with regards to the stories they choose to cover.
