ALBAWABA - Allegations filled social media platforms that an Israeli minister suggested building an "artificial island" to move Palestinians there.
According to social media users, Israel's foreign minister Israel Katz had proposed to temporarily move Palestinians out of Gaza to an artificial island.
Pro-Palestinian activists lashed out at Israel for its suggestion to send Palestinians out of Gaza to an island. In return, some claimed that Houthis proposed a similar plan to build an artificial island for Israel in the sea.
Nonetheless, Palestinian FM Riyadh al-Maliki responded to the Israeli proposal of an artificial island as an alternative Palestinian homeland: "Palestine is ours & we’ll stay in it. Whoever’s proposed this island idea, can go live on it."
On the other hand, Israel responded denying the rumors that its FM has proposed such a plan of an artificial island for Palestinians in Gaza.
According to The Guardian's Monday report, Katz had made a video presentation to EU foreign ministers that said Gazans "could be housed on an artificial island in the Mediterranean…as an alternative to the two-state solution."
Meanwhile, the EU's high representative for foreign affairs Josep Borrell revealed: "We had had the pleasure of watching two very interesting videos. One about an artificial island project to serve as a port…and another one about a project to build a railroad line linking the Middle East with India," according to The Guardian.
However, The Times of Israel said citing the country's foreign ministry, Katz has "never said such a thing, and there is no such plan."
