ALBAWABA - Israeli football player Sagiv Yehezkel who plays for Turkey's Antalyaspor team was allegedly arrested by the Turkish police after celebrating a goal he scored with a bandage on his hand that had 100 and the Star of David written on it causing massive controversy on social media outlets.
His pro-Israel stance caused outrage on social media because it's been 100 days since the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza which caused more than 23,000 deaths, 10,000 of whom are children and more than 50,000 wounded.
Israeli football player Sagiv Yehezkel arrested by Turkish police over Gaza war
Several pro-Israel users on X (formerly known as Twitter) said that the number 100 "referred to the hostages being held by the Hamas military group" since October 7 but pro-Palestine activists fired back at them and stated that some activists were reportedly arrested by the police in the United Kingdom for protesting and calling for a ceasefire.
DHA news reported later that Turkey released the detained Israeli footballer on Monday, Jan. 15, 2023, but is currently pending trial.
The number 100 and the Star of David written on the bandage were considered very insensitive toward Palestinians and what's been going on in Palestine as mentioned above.
Several users stated:
"If you didn't deliberately silence the Palestinians' voices then we wouldn't care. Free speech for some. Not for all."
"The social media sites lit up after this incident, as the player was considered to have supported genocide in Gaza."

The South African government filed the case against Israel on December 29, accusing it of "genocidal acts" in its attacks on Gaza. South Africa has accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, in violation of the 1948 Genocide Convention, to which both countries are parties.
Both countries presented their opening arguments on December 11 and 12 before the ICJ judges panel. South Africa asked for the court to issue several orders to be placed upon Israel.
These include having Israel "immediately suspend" its Gaza offensive, stop the forced displacement of Palestinians in the territory, and enable humanitarian access, as well as preserve evidence. The decisions of the ICJ are binding upon countries, and cannot be appealed.
