ALBAWABA - Two Jordanians were kidnapped in Syria on August 28, near the Mankat al-Hatab military checkpoint on the Daraa-Damascus highway, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
Maher Al-Sufi and Mahmoud Awida were both kidnapped shortly after entering the Syrian territories from Jordan. The gang requested a $150,000 ransom for their release.
A source close to the family of one of the kidnapped Jordanians announced that the gang contacted the mother of Mahmoud Awida, via her son’s WhatsApp number, indicating that the demanded ransom amounted to $150,000.

The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Sept. 14 the return of the two Jordanian citizens kidnapped in Syria, Maher Bashir Abdullah Al-Sufi and Mahmoud Samih Ahmed Awida, to the Kingdom.
It further added that they are in good health as they returned safe home, in coordination with the Syrian authorities, who secured their release and transfer.
In addition, SOHR said in a report on Friday that the Russian-backed "Eighth Brigade" received the drivers in the city of Busra al-Sham in the Daraa countryside, noting that the handover process was carried out in coordination with the Military Intelligence Branch of the Syrian regime forces.
