ALBAWABA - On Friday night, Israeli military officials said that during their operations in the Rafah region of southern Gaza, soldiers allegedly discovered a Gazan adaptation of the popular board game "Snakes and Ladders".

Israeli media sources claimed that the game had strategically placed targets meant to imitate assaults on Israeli cities.

Patrol troops also allegedely found a stockpile of weaponry from other residences, including hand grenades, explosives, detonators, cartridges, and other materials, in addition to the board game.

The centuries-old "Snakes and Ladders" game usually consists of a board with numbered squares ranging from 1 to 100. Players advance or regress according to the results of dice rolls.

The alleged Gaza-developed version, called "Journey to Jerusalem," on the other hand, substituted politically charged graphics for standard game features. Designed in 2017 by a teenage Palestinian, it replaced the snakes that the players used to symbolize failures with images of Israeli tanks and helicopters. On the other hand, pictures of Palestinian rockets, tunnels, and resistance fighters took the place of ladders, which stand for advancement and achievement.

The discovery of this altered game has sparked debate once again, bringing up objections made in the past by Israeli authorities who said that these changes might harm youngsters by instilling extremist beliefs.
