KFC post about Sudan criticized as racist

ALBAWABA - A post shared on Sudan's Reddit page triggered wide anger among citizens. The post shows a photo allegedly posted by KFC, in which the fast-food restaurant chain announces support for Sudan.

In the photo, a KFC chicken piece is seen with a shadow showing an arm as a symbol of standing in favor of Sudan's peace amid months of the ongoing war.

A slogan reading: "I hear you, I see you, and I stand with you" was read along with the hashtag "#TalkaboutSudan" written above the picture that was allegedly shared on KFC's official X account.

The photo which was shared on Reddit has dragged wide criticism from many users on the platform who considered it as a racist one by KFC.

Thousands of comments flooded the post, a Reddit user commented: "My thoughts too this feels racist." Another person said: "Is that actually real…?"

A netizen said: "It's literally fake, how yall on the Internet 24/7 and still can't differentiate between fake and real tweets pls."

Despite that many people decried the photo shared by KFC and labelled it a racist one, many activists explained that the photo was totally "FAKE" and that it was either created using Photoshop or an AI generator.

Many explained that the KFC logo which appears in the picture said to be shared by the American fast food restaurant chain, doesn't match the real logo of KFC, which proves that it was an edited post and that there's a huge difference that assures people the photo is not real, but "deep fake".

War in Sudan

A war between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, generally known as Hemedti, began on April 15, 2023.

Fighting has been concentrated around the capital Khartoum and the Darfur region killing at least 12,000 people and injuring 33,000 others, according to data shared on Dec. 19.

Moreover, As of December 29, over 5.8 million were internally displaced in Sudan while more than 1.5 million others had fled the country.
