ALBAWABA - A horrific bus accident on the Damascus-Deir Ezzor highway, which is nicknamed "road of death", killed 35 people and left dozens injured on Saturday, Syrian media reported.
The crash took place on the highway in eastern Syria when a bus carrying members of the Internal Security Forces collided with another bus carrying civilians in the area between Al-Sukhnah and Palmyra on the Damascus-Deir Ezzor road, according to the official Syrian news agency (SANA).
In one video, the two buses appeared engulfed in flames. Ambulance crews rushed to the scene, and hospitals in the affected governorates were placed on high alert to receive the injured.
The Syrian Ministry of Interior said that ambulance crews and relevant authorities were dispatched to the scene and are continuing to transport the injured and evacuate the victims.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defense sent several helicopters to participate in the medical evacuation of the injured and victims from Palmyra Airport to Homs Military Hospital. Syrian Civil Defense teams also responded to the incident, according to SANA.
Syrian child breaks hearts standing next to his mother
A Syrian little kid, whose age is between 3 and 4, gained massive empathy after the accident when he was seen wearing a red shirt and black pants, while standing next to a woman lying on the street, who some claimed was a victim in the bus crash.
However, Syrian local sources said that the mother was not dead and she was only slightly injured in the horrific bus crash. An audio recording shared online also revealed that the woman is alive.
According to media, the woman was given first aid and transferred to Palmyra along with her child.
An X post read, "The child and his mother survived a traffic accident on the Deir Ezzor–Damascus road in Syria, where they sustained minor injuries and were transported to the city of Palmyra to receive treatment."
