ALBAWABA - In a health update issued on Friday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu disclosed for the first time that he received treatment for prostate cancer.

The revelation was included in a thorough medical report that described the prime minister's general health and was posted on social media. Netanyahu stated that the tumor had been effectively cured, although he did not say when the treatment was carried out.

The 76-year-old leader is now in good health, according to the article, with normal findings from physical fitness assessments and blood testing. Additionally, it verified that his cardiac status is still stable after a pacemaker was implanted in 2023.

In addition to a different treatment in March 2024 to address a hernia, Netanyahu had earlier undergone surgery in December 2024 for what was then characterized as benign prostate hypertrophy.

Political context and delay

Netanyahu said in his statement that he delayed the medical report's release for two months due to worries about possible Iranian disinformation tactics.

As tensions between Israel and Iran escalated earlier this year, there were speculations on social media that the prime minister had passed away. Later, Netanyahu made a public appearance to refute such allegations.

Considering the future

As Israel gets ready for elections that are anticipated to take place in October, the prime minister's health is receiving more attention as the country's political climate changes.
