ALBAWABA - According to a Telegram report, North Korea has updated its constitution to call for a mandatory nuclear strike if Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un is assassinated. This reportedly comes after the assassination of the former Iranian Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, during the ongoing US-Israeli war with Iran.

The report in question adds that the decision was made on March 22 during the 15th Supreme People’s Assembly in Pyongyang, but was made public by the South Korean government via its National Intelligence Service (NIS) on Thursday last week. The NIS added further that Kim Jong Un commanded North Korea's nuclear forces to take action on his behalf in case he gets "incapacitated or killed."

A revised article stated that "If the command-and-control system over the state’s nuclear forces is placed in danger by hostile forces’ attacks ... a nuclear strike shall be launched automatically and immediately."

Russian professor Andrei Lankov said, "This may have been policy before, but it has added emphasis now it has been enshrined in the constitution. Iran was the wake-up call."

He added, "North Korea saw the remarkable efficiency of the US-Israeli decapitation attacks, which immediately eliminated the greater part of the Iranian leadership, and they must now be terrified."

The US-Israeli war with Iran

Despite the temporary ceasefire between the US and Iran, the US recently carried out strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Port and Bandar Abbas on Thursday, Fox News said, citing a senior American official.

An IRIB official said, "Following the attack by the US military on an Iranian tanker, the enemy units in the Strait of Hormuz came under Iranian missile fire and were forced to flee after suffering damage."

In response to the attack, the Iranian Navy launched missiles and drones at the US destroyers, as reported by Tasnim Agency.

US President Donald Trump also hinted during the weekend at the possible launch of operation "Freedom Plus," as tensions in the Strait of Hormuz remain high.
