ALBAWABA - Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill of Moscow Vladimir Gundyayev demanded Russia stop celebrating Valentine's Day and Halloween for several reasons including relationships outside of marriage, according to a report by a Russian news outlet.

The Russian Patriarch stated that both Valentine's Day and Halloween "involve orgies and ugly behavior that came from abroad and we reject them," causing controversy across social media platforms.

Russian Patriarch: The West is hostile to Christianity

According to Church Times, He added two days ago that Western politicians are “leading their people to the abyss of moral and spiritual devastation” and stated that Russia must “resist the Antichrist.”

The Patriarch added, “Western elites are deconstructing their Christian heritage and abandoning their spiritual roots, everything that shaped Western civilization and made possible its successes and achievements.”

Moreover, he said, “When the Soviet Union collapsed, much of our society felt optimistic about relations with the Western world; there was practically no assessment of the cultural and spiritual state of Western society.”

According to the Interior Ministry's wanted person database released on Dec. 15, 2023, Ukraine placed Vladimir Gundyayev on the wanted people list for allegedly being a former KGB agent and a spy on Switzerland in the 1970s.

The Kyiv Independent added that Another reason Ukraine put the Patriarch on the wanted list is that he reportedly supported Vladimir Putin and the Russian war in Ukraine.
