ALBAWABA - A South Korean man has been sentenced to prison for deliberately gaining weight to avoid military service.
According to sources, the young man came up with this plan in cooperation with his nutritionist friend, who created a special diet for him to make him gain weight.
A South Korean court sentenced the man to one year in prison for trying to mislead the medical committees. His friend, who was behind the idea, was given six months in jail.
In 2017, the South Korean man underwent initial medical examinations and it was determined that he was fit for military service, so he decided he should gain weight to avoid going to the army.
However, in the final medical examination in 2023, it was found that his weight had increased significantly and reached 102.3 kg. The doctors on the medical committee saw that the young man was suffering from extreme obesity, and they decided that he was not fit for service, but they suspected that the weight gain was deliberate.
After investigations, the court proved that the young man had "deliberately" gained weight, eaten large amounts of food daily, and drank large amounts of water before the medical examination.
