ALBAWABA - Palmerston (also known as Palmy), and dubbed the former "chief mouser" of the UK Foreign Office, has died in Bermuda.

According to the tuxedo cat's official account on X (formerly Twitter) with over 100,000 followers, Palmy "passed away peacefully on 12 February." The post added, "Palmy was a special member of the Government House team in Bermuda, and a much loved family member. He was a wonderful companion, with a gentle nature, and will be sorely missed."

Palmy was named after the 19th-century Foreign Secretary and Prime Minister Viscount Palmerston.

Parmelston retired back in 2020 during the COVID pandemic after serving 4 years. He was often seen keeping mice in check and roaming around Whitehall in Central London.

Before his passing, Palmy wrote a "letter" to his fans that he retired and moved away from Whitehall to climb trees and patrol fields instead of "overhearing all the foreign dignitaries' conversations." The cat added in the letter, "I have found life away from the frontline relaxed, quieter and easier."

Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office, Larry the Cat, took to the post's comment section and wrote, "Farewell old friend x."

Another X user wrote, "One of the greatest leaders in British politics has passed away. RIP Palmerston, we will all miss you..."
