ALBAWABA - Three Saudi Arabian tourists recently sparked outrage on social media after filming themselves mocking a Martyrs' cemetery in Baku, Azerbaijan.
This led to the arrest of all three individuals by Azerbaijani authorities, and they are expected to serve three months in prison, pending trial. The Saudi Arabian tourists received backlash from both Azerbaijani locals and Saudi Arabian netizens who described their actions as "inhumane" and "disrespectful."
A social media user took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and wrote, "A disgraceful individual act that does not represent our homeland or our values. Respect is a duty, whether you are inside or outside your country."

Another wrote, "I put myself in the place of the Azerbaijanis and found that they are justified in their stance toward this young man, may God guide him. We suggest that the embassy intervene and make him apologize."
The user added, "Perhaps this will calm the anger of the Azerbaijani people and lead them to forgive his shameful behavior."
According to several sources, investigators revealed that the tourists arrived in Baku on August 13 for a 5-day visit.
In response to their actions, several other Saudi Arabian tourists in Azerbaijan went to the same Martyrs' cemetery to offer their respects to the deceased and apologize on behalf of the detained individuals. A video flooding social media captured the gesture:
