ALBAWABA -  A Telegram user named General SVR recently claimed that ousted Syrian President Bashar Assad has reportedly fallen ill after someone tried poisoning him in an assassination attempt, according to The Sun.

The report further added that Bashar Assad suddenly asked for help after he started to "cough violently and choke," further claiming that "an assassination attempt was made."

Assad was not admitted to a hospital but reportedly received treatment in one of his Moscow apartments. During his treatment, the ousted Syrian President was given water to ease the attack symptoms following a series of headaches and stomach aches, as reported by the Daily Express.

Was Bashar Assad "poisoned" in an assassination attempt?

It seems that Assad received treatment as soon as possible and his condition stabilized on Monday amid the New Year's. Despite claims reporting that Assad was poisoned, nothing official was reported and no confirmation from Russian authorities was made.

This all comes in after the ousted Syrian president fled from Damascus to Moscow, Russia with his family on Dec. 8, 2024, including his wife Asma who is reportedly seeking a divorce. Moreover, she has also been rediagnosed with Leukemia, a type of cancer that affects blood tissues and bone marrow.

Moreover, Asma Assad who was born in London was also barred from going back to her home country, the United Kingdom after reports indicated that her passport expired.
