A pickup truck hit Sydney Thomas' truck on Louisville's Clark Memorial Bridge, sending her hanging perilously. Thomas was suspended from the bridge for 40 minutes until fireman Carden rescued her.
Thomas, who couldn't swim, feared death if her vehicle fell into the river. She worried about abandoning her son during the process.
Thomas's suspension failed as the pickup truck swerved into her path to avoid another car, according to dashcam evidence. Thomas remembered feeling resigned as her vehicle careened toward the railing, terrified for her life on the bridge.
The motorist is successfully rescued from the dangerous scenario by firemen using a ladder and pulley system in a daring rescue operation that was seen on camera.
Thomas tearfully told reporters about the horrific event, thanking God for miraculous intervention during her prayers. Despite the stress, she said she would return to Sysco, but not as a semi-truck driver. Thomas said she was hesitant to cross the Clark Memorial Bridge again.
The video was aired again during Trevor Branham's May 15 court appearance. Branham faces public safety and licenseless driving charges.
Thomas was rescued from her vehicle by Carden, preventing a tragedy. Thomas said she would conquer fear and find her purpose despite her uneasiness.
