ALBAWABA - Following recent Israeli bombings in Lebanon, there is uncertainty over the location of Iran's Quds Force commander, Ismail Qaani.
According to Reuters, since the attacks in Beirut last week, Qaani has not been in communication with any top Iranian security authorities. On the other hand, a member of the Iranian parliament maintains that Qaani is well and dismisses the claims as conjecture.
Following the death of Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli attack last month, Qaani visited Lebanon. According to one source, Qaani was in the southern suburbs of Beirut on Thursday when the attack occurred. Hashem Safi al-Din is seen to be a possible successor to Nasrallah. It was made clear, nevertheless, that Qaani and Safi al-Din were not meeting at that time.
A member of the national security committee of the Iranian parliament responded to the reports about Qaani's health, saying the general is doing OK and that these rumors should not be taken seriously. He said that these stories are a component of an antagonistic plan meant to terrorize the rebel groups.
Mahmoud Qamati, a representative of Hezbollah, responded to questions over Qaani's whereabouts by saying, "I have no information, and we are also investigating the validity of these claims."
This comes after a flurry of Israeli operations in Lebanon that targeted prominent members of Hamas and Hezbollah, including the killing of Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander Abbas Nielforushan and Nasrallah.
Israel has been conducting one of the most aggressive military campaigns in Lebanon since the war with Hezbollah began on October 8, 2023, since September 23. Thousands of people lack proper shelter as a consequence of this escalation, which has claimed hundreds of lives and forced many more to flee.
