ALBAWABA - Following Ismail Haniyeh's killing, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has declared that the process of selecting a new leader for its political bureau has begun. In compliance with its established rules, the movement has started holding discussions.

Hamas emphasized its robust institutional structure and well-established consultation mechanisms in a message posted on its Telegram channel this morning, Saturday. These features have been proved throughout the decades that have seen the martyrdom of numerous of its leaders.

The organization "swiftly appoints successors for its leaders based on its regulations and systems," the statement added. In order to choose a new leader for the cause after brother leader Abu al-Abd (Ismail Haniyeh) was martyred, the leadership has started holding lengthy talks among its advisory and leadership bodies."

Rumors that have been going around on social media and in the media regarding the appointment of certain people have been refuted by Hamas, who also stated that the movement will make an announcement when its discussions are over regarding the results.

The martyr leader Ismail Haniyeh is a loss not just to the movement but also to the Palestinian people, the Arab and Islamic countries, and freedom-loving people everywhere, as emphasized by Hamas. The worldwide participation and universal sympathy are unmistakable signs of this."

The statement went on to say that Haniyeh's murder "will only strengthen the resolve and determination of Hamas and the Palestinian resistance to carry out his mission." The resistance will be strengthened and fueled by his clean and holy blood."

Hamas said on Wednesday morning that Haniyeh was killed in a "Zionist raid" that targeted his Tehran home following his attendance at Masoud Bazeshkian's inauguration as Iran's new president.

Following Friday prayers, Haniyeh's remains were interred at the Imam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab Mosque in Doha, Qatar.
