ALBAWABA - As Los Angeles still suffers from the ongoing fires across the city, an account on Musk's X (formerly Twitter) named 'EarthquakePrediction' issued a warning that California might face a major earthquake during the next 50 hours.
The post featured a photo claiming a 98 percent risk of an earthquake, likely in southern California, including Los Angeles and Ventura County between January 12 and 13, following a caption that read, "50 HOUR WARNING: Major earthquake is likely in Southern California, most likely in Los Angeles or Ventura County during next 50 hours 01/12 to 01/13."
Will a major earthquake hit California? New predictions cause chaos
The predictions in question sparked chaos and concern across Musk's X while other users on the platform were skeptical about the possibility, since many claim that earthquakes can't be predicted and accused many of causing concern and chaos in an already difficult situation due to the ongoing fires in Los Angeles.
A community note on X was added which said, "Neither the USGS nor any other scientists have ever predicted a major earthquake. We do not know how, and we do not expect to know how any time in the foreseeable future."
One user wrote about the ''EarthquakePrediction' account, "This page just posts "There's an earthquake coming to California" nonstop. We do not have the ability to predict earthquakes successfully."
They added, "Eventually, they'll nail a prediction on a long enough timeline through chance."

AFP reported that the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner confirmed that 16 people lost their lives in the fires, which spread fast burning 40,198 acres.
Cal Fire revealed that over 12,300 structures were also damaged in the fire that has been spreading and is unable to be put out by authorities.
