The Arab league head made an unprecedented visit to the Gaza Strip on Sunday as part of a growing international push to end a 3-year-old siege.

Amr Moussa's visit was the first by a senior Arab official to the Strip since Hamas movement seized the territory in 2007. Moussa entered Gaza through the Rafah terminal. "The siege must be lifted," he said, according to the AP. "All the world is now standing with the people of Palestine and the people of Gaza."

In arriving in Gaza on Sunday, he also stressed the need for a Palestinian unity deal. "Reconciliation is a key issue," said Moussa. "We hope this beginning will end with reconciliation."
