In line with its goal to develop its employees’ capabilities, PepsiCo Jordan – which received the King Abdullah II Award of Excellence in 2009 – in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Trade organized on Wednesday, 2nd February 2011 a training workshop for its Sales Department employees on Jordan’s Competition Law.

The workshop, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, was conducted by Mr. Hussein Hamdani, Director of the Competition Department at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, covering several important topics relating to the law, which is one of the most vital laws that companies need to enforce and be aware of in order to create a positive work environment characterized by just competition.

Commenting on the workshop, Mr. Sufian Salman, East Med & Africa Business Unit HR Director at PepsiCo, said, “We at PepsiCo-Jordan are dedicated to training our employees and honing their skills in various professional fields in order to enable them to comply with best international practices, thus ensuring that they enjoy a more productive and successful career in the market. We are proud to be pioneers in this field as Jordan was one of the first Arab countries to implement the competition law, which we believe plays a pivotal role in determining sound professional mechanisms that protect consumers’ best interests.

Attending the workshop was PepsiCo’s East Med & Africa Business Unit GM, Mr. Marwan Istaitie, PepsiCo-Jordan’s General Manager, Mr. Ahmed El Sheikh, in addition to the department managers at the company.

“We thank the Ministry of Industry and Trade for its effective role in developing companies’ performance and for its collaboration with PepsiCo in particular, which reflects both the public and private sectors’ commitment to creating a solid and competitive economy based on laws and legislations that promote economic prosperity,” added Mr. Salman.

In turn, Mr. Hamdani affirmed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade seeks to support all private sector organizations’ efforts in raising employees’ awareness on the Competition Law and its culture. He also commended PepsiCo’s ongoing efforts towards enhancing its employees’ knowledge in this regard with the aim of bolstering its performance in the market and ensuring that it abides by competition regulations.

Background Information

Pepsi Cola International

In 1965, Donald Kendall, the CEO of Pepsi-Cola, and Herman Lay, the CEO of Frito-Lay, recognized what they called “a marriage made in heaven,” a single company delivering perfectly-salty snacks served alongside the best cola on earth. Their vision led to what quickly became one of the world's leading food and beverage companies: PepsiCo.

For more than 50 years, as tastes, trends and lifestyles have changed, PepsiCo has evolved with them. Our willingness to adapt and grow has transformed our snack and soda company into a collection of global brands including Pepsi and Quaker, Gatorade and Tropicana, Frito-Lay and beyond. Today, PepsiCo is one of the world’s most-respected companies with products sold in more than 200 countries and territories and 22 brands that generate more than $1 billion each in estimated annual retail sales.
