10 Gilmore Girls situations we wish our Arab mama reacted to like Lorelai did!

We have waited almost a decade for it. Finally, our favorite mother-daughter TV series is coming back to our screens on November 25. Unless you've been living under a rock, you know that we're talking about Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, the iconic show celebrating the chronicles of a precocious teenager, Rory, and her unconventional single mom, Lorelai, living in the picturesque town of Stars Hollow.

The show and its characters were as much loved in the Middle East as they were internationally. But it was the relationship between Lorelai and Rory that often incited feelings of jealousy within Arab teenage girls, who wished their own mamas could be a bit more like the free spirited single mum.

Lorelai is one of those moms you rarely see on TV (or in real life!). She's strong-minded, witty, provocative and funny all at the same time. We simply love her carefree eating habits, quick-smart jokes, lighthearted yet insightful breakup advice, perpetual sense of humor and extravagant outfits, so much that we're not ashamed to admit that we wish she was our mom too!

In honor of the heroine mama's return to Netflix this week, we've listed the 10 times we wished our mums reacted to Gilmore Girls situations in the same way Lorelai did. Sorry Arab mamas, but you'd better take notes this time!

Your Arab mama would need a whole lotta convincing to let you go to a dance with a boy, let alone be OK with you staying out all night because you’d “fallen asleep.” Not Lorelai though. She was skeptical at first, but soon trusted her daughter and the way she raised her.

Not only is Jess a bad boy, he’s hella sexy too. Lorelai was not thrilled about him dating Rory but she gritted her teeth and bore it. Not sure how your mama would react, but given that Saudi Arabia ordered Omar Borkan Al Gala out of the country for being too hot, we’re not getting our hopes up!

Rory has that special relationship with her mom where they can talk about anything - even sex. When Rory thinks she’s ready to become sexually active, she tells Lorelai, who manages to keep her cool. In the conservative Arab world, however, most girls aren't allowed to date in the first place, let alone think about sex out of wedlock!

When Mrs Kim is horrified to find her daughter Lane living alone with two boys - the horror - she runs to Lorelai panicking. Lorelai suggests that Kim simply thinks of them as girls. Surprisingly, this does the trick and Kim returns calmly to her daughter’s apartment for tea. Most Arab girls can only move out of mum's home when they get married.

Lorelai catches Rory and Dean in the aftermath of their first sexual encounter. Although Lorelai is not thrilled about it and calls Rory out on the fact that Dean is married, she ultimately is supportive of her daughter. Our moms would have probably just sent us to live with our great auntie in the village.

What would your mother do if you stole something and spent the night in jail? Well, she probably would think you are bound to embrace a life of crime. Lorelai, however, understood that it was just a teen's slip-up, and reacted with a rare sense of humor making fun over the entire situation.

Rory isn’t exactly a partygoer. That’s why when her mom first drops her off at her university dorm, she inevitably faces a bit of social awkwardness. Until Lorelai throws an epic party at the dorm with tons of food and caffeine. We’d love our Arab mamas to unleash their party animal too!

When Rory gets distraught that Logan has not contacted her, she drinks one too many. Instead of scolding her daughter as most of our parents would, Lorelai holds Rory’s hair back and sets up a massive junk food-fueled hangover breakfast. No judgements here, mamas.

Rory has always been a Harvard girl, but eventually she doesn’t stick to her plans. After initial fears that grandpa Richard was behind Rory’s change in universities, Lorelai encourages her daughter to follow her new path. Lesson learnt: Nothing is set in stone and change can be good.

When Rory vents her frustrations at her tormented romance with Jess by throwing "deviled eggs" at his car, Lorelai joins forces with her - proving that she isn’t just Rory’s best friend, but the coolest partner in crime a daughter could ever wish for!
