Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on October 29, 2018 opened with fanfare Istanbul's new international airport, which his government says will eventually become the world's largest.
Over 50 foreign dignitaries from at least 18 countries attended the ceremony.
Istanbul Airport is the biggest airport worldwide. The airport is build upon 76,5 square kilometers and is located 35 kilometers northwest of Istanbul.
Built by a consortium of five contractors will provide over 26 billion euros ($30.65 billion) of revenue to the government.
With the remaining phases to be completed by 2023, the airport is to sport six separate runways with a capacity of 500 aircraft, an annual 200 million passengers and open and closed carparks for 70,000 cars.
