The Olive Oil Harvest Season Begins in Palestine

Published October 8th, 2020 - 11:58 GMT

Farmers in Palestine kicked off the olive harvest season to produce oil amid restricted coronavirus regulations which was imposed by local authorities.

The olive season is so common in Palestine as olive trees represent symbols of peace and hope, according to Adham al-Basiouny, spokesman of the Hamas-run agriculture ministry.

Around 3,300 hectares of lands are planted with olive trees in Gaza, with an annual production of about 24,000 tons in normal weather conditions, according to official data.

The coronavirus measures pushed dozens of farmers and customers to wait long to press their olives into oil.
