Former Dutch footballing superstar Clarence Seedorf said Sunday that the 2022 World Cup will inspire new generations to take part in the game.

Speaking in an interview to the website of Qatar's Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, he said "Every World Cup inspires millions of people, especially youngsters. That will happen this time again, according to Qatar News Agency (QNA).

The actors inspire them. The World Cup inspires many people, and as every World Cup there are always challenges. But we’ve seen they’ve always been overcome in the past. I don’t expect anything different this time." The Dutch was full of praise for Aspire Academy's effort to develop footballers, having been part of the legendary Ajax academy himself. "The mission of Qatar as a country I have to say is quite noble. I can only appreciate their efforts in trying to make a difference in the world," Seedorf said.

The four-time Champions League winner with three different clubs, a record, said he expects his record to be matched and broken one day. "Records are there to be broken, that is how sport goes, but hopefully it will stand there for a while," the 39 year-old added. Seedorf's record is already under threat, with Xabi Alonso (currently playing for Bayern Munich) already winning the trophy with Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Seedorf made has name with the famous Ajax team managed by Van Gaal in 1995. Seedorf, along with a host of Dutch youngsters, shocked the world back then when they won the Champions League title. From there he moved to Real Madrid, where he also won the Champions League in 1998. He then moved to Italian giants AC Milan, and won the title in 2003 and 2007, QNA reported on Sunday.
