Ajax's Abdelhak Nouri 'out of danger' after collapsing during match

Dutch footballer Abdelhak Nouri was "out of danger," his club Ajax Amsterdam tweeted late Saturday, after he collapsed during a friendly against German Bundesliga side Werder Bremen in Austria.

However it said the 20-year-old, who plays for the Dutch under-21s, remained in intensive care in an artificial coma.

Nouri was airlifted to hospital on Friday night after suffering a heart failure 70 minutes into the match in Zillertal. He was treated by medics on the pitch for 30 minutes before being taken to hospital by helicopter.

The match was abandoned with the players watching on stunned from the edge of the pitch.

"Life and football can be so beautiful, but it can also be gruesome," Werder Bremen's sports director Frank Baumann said to reporters after the match was called off. "I think, today, we experienced a tragic moment."

"Our thoughts and absolute best wishes are with the player, his family, his teammates and with all the fans and those in charge at Ajax Amsterdam."
