Ghana and Al Ain skipper Asamoah Gyan is convinced he is back to his best ahead of his side’s AFC Champions League last-16 first leg against UAE rivals Al Ahli today.

Gyan, signed from Sunderland in 2011, smashed an impressive 44 goals in 40 matches last season.

But, after international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations in January this year, Gyan has struggled with injuries and managed just 18 starts for his club, scoring 13 times.

However, the 29-year-old has rediscovered his touch after netting four times in his last four matches.

“I am a professional football player and there are going to be injuries in my career. Personally this season has been a difficult one for me and I have done well to come back. Other strikers have done well to score in my absence. We are the best right now and scoring after returning from injury has helped my confidence levels,” Gyan told media yesterday.

“The most important thing is we need to have a winning mentality. Winning has been a part of us now and we strongly believe we can win.”
