Former Bahraini Olympic athlete Ruqaya Al Ghasra remained tight lipped yesterday over rumours that she could run as a candidate in next month’s parliamentary elections.
The 36-year-old became one of the first women to represent Bahrain at the Olympics, when she competed in the women’s 100 metres sprint at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.
She won medals at the 2006 Asian Games and went on to run at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2009 Athletics World Championships.
However, she neither confirmed nor denied her poll candidacy when contacted by the GDN yesterday - saying only that she would comment once candidate registration was completed.
