Barcelona are set to compete with Liverpool for the services of Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim, as per The Independent.

Barca have begun the search for a successor to coach Xavi Hernandez who will be stepping down at the end of the season, and do not want to miss out on the Portuguese who is also being tied to Liverpool.

The Catalan giants are still hoping to keep hold of Xavi for one more season, according to Athletic, but are looking at alternatives just in case.

Amorim who is just 38, is widely respected across Europe having ended Sporting CP's 19-year Primeira Liga title drought in 2021.
