A win for Oman over Egypt will end an encouraging campaign for the sultanate side at the worlds.

Coached by Hamood al Hassani, Oman had advanced to the second round from Group B as the fourth best team behind Croatia, Spain and hosts Hungary.

During the group engagements, Oman gave a scare to European champion Croatia before recording a stunning win over another European giant Spain.

It had defeated US, Uruguay and Australia in the group stage.

However, its 0-2 (13-22, 14-25) loss to Hungary on Thursday cost the team dear as it was pushed to play in the consolation round.

In the consolation rounds played on Friday, Oman defeated US 8-6 in a shootout after the teams were tied 1-1 with Oman winning the first game 17-16. US won the next 24-16.

However, Hassani's men were outplayed in their next game against regional rival Bahrain as they lost 19-26, 12-18.

Oman bounced back from the loss against Bahrain to defeat Egypt 2-0 (15-14, 19-14), setting up a replay for the seventh-place playoff game.

Despite the reverse against Bahrain, Oman topped the consolation round among the six nations. Egypt, Uruguay, Bahrain, Australia and US being the other teams.

Oman's campaign at the worlds so far saw the team winning a total of six games and losing three matches.

Meanwhile, Croatia will meet Hungary and defending champion Brazil will take on Qatar in the semifinals.
