Chelsea allowed Juan Mata to enter into talks with Manchester United this week as the 25-year-old out of favor Spanish playmaker looks to be finally moving to a club that will utilize him.

After two years as Chelsea's player of the year, Mata found himself almost completely frozen out by returning manager Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese boss has shown preference to the Brazilian midfield contingent of his side as opposed to his Spanish maestro and what Manchester United has lacked is a midfielder that can pull the strings to awaken the Red Devils offense.

With Mata set to depart for a massive fee, Chelsea are rumored to be closing in on a deal with FC Basel for 21-year-old winger Mohamed Salah.

All week the Swiss club's Egyptian has been heavily linked to Liverpool, but the news of Mata's impending departure looks to have stirred up rumors that Brendan Rodgers is set to be one-upped by his former mentor.

Goal.com reports that the London side are set to make an offer in the range of €12 million that could derail the Reds hopes of completing a deal for the impressive youngster in the coming days.
