Roma's Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah was named on Monday in the ten-man shortlist of nominees for the 2015 African player of the year award.

The international winger is the only Egyptian player to remain in the race for the prestigious award as Zamalek striker Bassem Morsi and winger Hazem Emam, who featured in the preliminary list, were excluded.

Salah, 23, made a great impact in the Serie A this year, scoring six goals in 16 appearances with Fiorentina before netting five more in ten matches with Roma, where he has been plying his trade since last summer.

Algerian pair Yacine Brahimi (FC Porto, Portugal) and Sofiane Feghouli (Valencia, Spain) were also included on the list unveiled by the Confederation of the African Football (CAF).

Manchester City's Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure, winner of the last three titles and compatriot Serge Aurier (PSG, France) feature on the list that also includes Borussia Dortmund Gabonese striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.

Gabonese striker Aubameyang made headlines after his strong performances with the Bundesliga side this season that saw him score 20 goals in 18 appearances with Dortmund so far.

The winner will be decided by a vote of national team coaches in Africa and announced on 7 January at a ceremony in Abuja, Nigeria.
