Everton v Manchester United: Preview and projected lineups for must win Moyes return

Everton welcome back former manager David Moyes in a situation that will have the masses continuing to just take a moment to reflect upon. For ten years, Moyes fought to get Everton above Manchester United, now that he is in charge at United he finally have achieved his Everton goal.

Not meant as pun intended, but it is certainly something to think about as the race for the final UEFA Europe League and UEFA Champions League places continue to unfold.

Everton looked on the verge of sealing a return to the UCL for the first time since Moyes was in charge. United are on the verge of missing out on the UCL for the first time under the leadership of Moyes.

So many story lines surround the Everton match that it makes the preview just as interesting. A win for United sees them close the gap between them and sixth placed Tottenham to only three points with a match in hand as Manchester City's Capital One Cup victory saw the sixth spot become a Europa League place. United have a major goal differential advantage of Spurs and that could be the deciding factor come the last day of the year.

Everton are a point back from Arsenal and have to win out and hope the Gunners drop points to get into the Champions League. The midweek loss to Crystal Palace was a massive blow to Roberto Martinez's European dreams for the Toffee's and makes every match a must win now.

Every match is a must win for Moyes at United as well as his future hangs in the balance and being able to save a place in Europe, even if only the Europa League, for next season is better than finishing with nothing to show for a season that truly capitulated the Red Devils fall from grace.

Everton is likely to field the same first team that won last weekend, while United have several injury doubts and Wayne Rooney, Johnny Evans, Rafael and Marouane Fellaini could all miss out.

Everton XI: Howard: Coleman, Stones, Distin, Baines; McCarthy, Barry; Naismith, Barkley, Mirallas; Lukaku.

United XI: Gea: Smalling, Jones, Vidic, Evra; Fletcher, Carrick; Valencia, Mata, Kagawa; Welbeck.
