Cesc Fabregas claims that while Barcelona are not playing that well their girt and determination will see them to the La Liga title this season.
The Spanish international was speaking having helped Barca come from behind at Sevilla to beat their hosts 3-2. That win equalled the Catalan giants’ best ever start with six wins, but in spite of that stat it’s fair to say they’ve failed to play with the panache or consistency of previous years when, under Pep Guardiola, they’ve blow teams away.
In their past three games they’ve been forced to comeback against Spartak Moscow at home in the Champions League and scrap their way to a 2-0 win over Grenada.
But rather than worry about their less than perfect performances, their midfielder claimed they’ve learned to grind out results, no matter how they’re playing.
“We were never comfortable during the game, but when things got complicated we demonstrated our character,” Fabregas (pictured left) said.
For 89 minutes, Sevilla looked set to repeat its feat from two weeks ago when they edged out Real Madrid with a similar counterattacking effort. Piotr Trochowski opened for Sevilla with Alvaro Negredo doubling the host’s advantage three minutes after half-time.
Five minutes later Fabregas scored from long range to start Barcelona’s comeback, but Sevilla held firm until midfielder Gary Medel was shown a red card for head-butting the former Arsenal captain with 18 minutes to go.
Barcelona pressed its advantage and Fabregas took Lionel Messi’s pass ito level the scores a minute from time.
Messi, frustrated early on in his attempts to score, then teed up David Villa’s winner three minutes into added time. And Villa, while overjoyed at the result, admitted the side needs to improve.
“Everything can improve,” the striker said. “You have to get better on a daily basis regardless if you win or lose.” Real were 11 points behind their arch-rivals before hammered Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday night.
