Thomas Muller scored twice to break the resolve of a spirited Scotland and ensure Germany began their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign with a victory in Dortmund.
After a bright Scottish start, Muller put the world champions ahead on 18 minutes when he sent a looping header beyond David Marshall, but Ikechi Anya raced onto a Steven Fletcher pass on 66 minutes to curl past Manuel Neuer and level the scores.
But the threat of Gordon Strachan's men stealing a famous point lasted less than four minutes, as Muller latched onto a failed clearance from a Germany corner to clinically lash home the winner.
Insult was added to injury in stoppage time for Scotland when Charlie Mulgrew received his second yellow card for injuring Marco Reus, while Muller was denied a hat-trick by the width of a post.
