Germany players at the Euro 2016 tournament in France on Wednesday condemned the attacks at Istanbul airport the previous night in which more than 40 people died.
"We condemn terrorism," Lukas Podolski, who plays at Istanbul club Galatasaray tweeted in Turkish as he expressed condolences to the relatives of the victims.
Fellow Germany forward and Turkish league top scorer Mario Gomez of Besiktas said he had asked his friends in Istanbul via text message whether they are OK after the latest attack in the country.
"It is a very sad story. The country will suffer and the league will suffer as well. It is an issue that moves many people," Gomez told reporters.
Germany playmaker Mesut Oezil, who has Turkish roots, also took to Twitter to express his grief.
