Prime Minister Saad Hariri met with CEO of the FIA Formula E Championship Alejandro Agag Tuesday to discuss the possibility of hosting races in Beirut. The Formula E Championship is a class using only electrically powered vehicles.
“They currently host races in cities all over the world ... and Beirut would be in my opinion a great venue for this championship. It is a very beautiful city and a big capital and we would love to make this possible,” Agag said, according to a statement from Hariri’s media office.
Beirut came close to hosting the Formula 1 Grand Prix in 1999, but the event was never realized.
The premier later met separately with Australian envoy Glenn Miles and the pair reportedly discussed developments in the region.
