Prime Minister-Designate Saad Hariri took part this morning in the "BLOM bank Beirut Marathon", wearing number 3. Asked if the marathon is faster than the government, Hariri said: "There is also a marathon in forming the government, they are competing for ministries."

He added: "We are looking towards the future and Lebanon is doing well."

Yesterday evening, Hariri received a delegation representing the "Beirut Marathon" Association, headed by its president May Khalil and in the presence of the president of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Lord Sebastian Coe, the Secretary General of the Lebanese Olympic Committee Hassan Rustom, the president of the Lebanese Association of Athletics Federations Roland Saade, BLOM Bank Chairman Saad Azhari, the Head of Beirut Municipality Jamal Itani, Hariri's Advisor Fadi Fawaz, the Coordinator of the sports sector at the "Future Movement" Houssam Zbibo and a number of foreign runners and members of the board of directors of the "Beirut Marathon Association".

Mrs Khalil said: "We salute Prime Minister Hariri and we emphasize that we have full confidence that the government will be formed because Lebanon needs a period of security. We are very happy that Premier Hariri is leading this stage. This is an official visit in the presence of Lord Coe whose presence gives a lot of confidence in the activities of "Beirut Marathon Association".

The number of foreign participants in this year's marathon exceeds 3500, representing 99 Arab and foreign countries and the total number of participants are 47288.

For his part, Lord Coe thanked Premier Hariri for supporting the marathon, expressing his pleasure for being in Lebanon to participate in it.

Hariri welcomed the guests and said: "Beirut showed great resistance, especially since 2005 after the assassination of martyr Premier Rafik Hariri. Today, we are witnessing a new form of resistance and persistence in the Lebanese ability to stand up after each crisis. We remained without a president for two and a half years and now there is a president and we are working on the formation of a new government soon."

He added, addressing Khalil: "What you are doing today inspires the youth and the Lebanese in general. I hope there would be many such events that allow the Lebanese to come out of the atmosphere of division and run together".

He added: "I hope to participate with you tomorrow in the marathon because it is inspiring and I thank you for coming to Beirut, this city that suffered a lot but always resisted and overcame all the difficulties. I want to achieve my father's dream, which is also the dream of every Lebanese, and that is to show that Beirut is a great city. We have to continue and achieve our goals regardless of the difficulties."

At the end of the meeting, Khalil and Coe gave Hariri the card bearing the number 3 to participate in the marathon.
