Gianni Infantino has finally agreed a salary package with world football governing body FIFA, six months after being elected as its president.

"The FIFA president's gross basic salary will be 1.5 million Swiss francs (1.53 million dollars) per year plus benefits," FIFA said in a statement Wednesday.

Infantino will not receive a bonus in 2016 but has benefits in the form of a car, free accommodation and 2,000 francs in expenses per month.

The agreement ends a dispute over salary which saw Infantino forced to deny he had rejected a salary of 2 million francs as "insulting." That offer had reportedly been set by FIFA's audit and compliance committee under the leadership of Domenico Scala, who subsequently resigned.

"Given the earlier misunderstandings and misrepresentations concerning this process and my compensation, I am pleased that this matter is now resolved and that I have a signed, valid employment contract," FIFA quoted Infantino as saying in a statement.

FIFA also said general secretary Fatma Samoura had been given a salary of 1.3 million francs, without a bonus in 2016.
