Los Angeles made its pitch for the 2024 Olympics to the International Olympic Committee's evaluation committee on Friday, receiving praise for its venues and concept.

The nine-strong inspection team is now on its way to Paris, the only other candidate in the running for the 2024 Games.

Commission chief Patrick Baumann had nothing bur praise for the Los Angeles bid which he said had "no major risks" and offered venues which were "spectacualar," "impressive" and "mindblowing," according to US media reports.

"Los Angeles is already a great Olympic city but after these three days we now realize that was an understatement," Baumann was quoted as saying.

"This visit has certainly confirmed our opinion that Los Angeles has developed an excellent proposal."

Baumann underlined that the bid was in line with the IOC's Agenda 2020 guidelines, mainly through the extensive use of existing sports facilities. No new permanent sports facilities need to be built for the Games in the Californian city, which hosted the 1932 and 1984 Games.

The 2024 Games has already seen possible candidates Boston, Hamburg, Rome and Budapest withdraw.

However Baumann said both remaining candidates were "two excellent cities."

"I think that we are at a fortunate time for the history of bids for Olympics Games," Baumann said.

The IOC is due to choose a host city at its Session in Lima on September 13.

A working group is also looking at the possibility of a double vote for the 2024 and 2028 Games, which could see the 2024 loser getting the 2028 Games.

The four-strong group will report to the IOC board meeting in July in Lausanne, Switzerland when LA and Paris will make formal presentations of their 2024 bids.
