Manchester United fans' worst fears were seemingly confirmed by David Moyes according to the Metro. Currently in 7th place in the Premier League, many were expecting Moyes and United to open their wallets this winter and bring in reinforcements to hold them over till the summer.

When asked if he expected to see any new arrivals at Old Trafford this winter, Moyes said: “I don’t think so. I think most of the business will be more towards the summer rather than January.”

This news will certainly be hard to hear for Manchester United fans. Moyes has struggled to really establish consistency in charge at United, which has led the club's worst start in quite some time. Injuries have plagued the current holders this season as well, which made many believe Moyes would enter the market with a goal of bringing in temporary help at the very least.

Could Moyes' decision not to enter the market in January play an even bigger impact than expected? If Manchester United fail to finish in the top four, they won't qualify for the Champions League and could find attracting players to Old Trafford slightly more difficult. This summer proved just how big of an influence Sir Alex Ferguson had during his time at United. His ability to convince players to sign for the Red Devils was backed by his incredible record, but Moyes obviously lacks that history supporting him.

To make matters worse, rumors are beginning to circulate that Chelsea and Jose Mourinho are ready to reignite their interest in United's Wayne Rooney. Despite his rocky start with Moyes at the start of the season, Rooney has been United's star man this year and proven his worth by not only scoring goals but also creating them. If a player like Rooney does end up leaving Old Trafford, would that make things even more difficult for Moyes?
