Spain's Rafael Nadal made history today by winning his eighth French Open after defeating his compatriot David Ferrer 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 in the final.

With the win, Nadal has now clinched the tournament eight out of the nine times he’s played at Roland Garros.

He has also become the first man to win a singles title eight times in one of the four Grand Slam Championships.

Nadal edged past Novak Djokovic of Serbia, number one in the ATP World Tour Rankings, by three sets to two.
