Rafael Nadal slipped down the men's world tennis rankings released by the ATP Monday while Novak Djokovic retained his number one spot.

The Serb tops the standings on 13,845 points to maintain a comfortable advantage over Swiss Roger Federer on 8,645.

Nadal, after his loss in Sunday's Madrid final to Andy Murray, has fallen three places to seventh. Murray remains third after adding the Madrid title to his triumph in Munich a week previously.

Australia's Nick Kyrgios gained five places to reach a career-high ranking of 30th which ensures he will be seeded for the French Open which begins at Roland Garros on May 24.
