Continuing with their dominant display, Oman handed Kyrgyzstan a 3-0 defeat to stay unbeaten in the ongoing 2018 Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group IV competition at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on Wednesday.

After their third successive victory, Oman are virtually assured of a place in the playoffs from where they hope to clinch one of the two Group III promotional berths.

As in their previous ties against Bangladesh and Iraq, which also resulted in 3-0 wins, local star Mohammed Al Nabhani gave Oman a rousing start with a comfortable 6-1, 6-1 win in the first singles rubber against Kirill Kistanov.

In the second singles, young Abdullah Al Barwani also scored a straight sets 6-2, 6-2 victory over Evgeniy Babak.

With the victory already achieved, Oman’s non-playing captain Siddique Al Hashmi gave young Muneer Al Rawahi an opportunity to play his first Davis Cup match in the doubles rubber.

Muneer combined well with Mohammed Al Nabhani to defeat Evgeniy Babak and Georgy Kotlyarevsky 6-4, 6-0 to make it 3-0.

Siddiq Al Hashmi said: “I am really happy with today’s victories. After a long and tough outing against Iraq on Tuesday, I should say we had a relatively easy day out there. Though I should add the matches were not easy as our players have to give their best in all three rubbers. Definitely not easy but a smooth day.”

“I am also happy how Muneer Al Rawahi played in his Davis Cup debut match. He played well along with Mohammed Al Nabhani in the doubles. I am sure Muneer will be thrilled with his first Davis Cup match and the experience will give him a boost in his future matches.”

Like hosts Oman, the UAE too recorded their third successive victory with a similar 3-0 win over Myanmar on Wednesday.

However, Oman after winning all nine rubbers are on top of Pool A while the UAE are currenly in second place as they lost one rubber in their 2-1 win against Bangladesh on Tuesday.

The Group IV competition concludes on Saturday when the winners of Pool A will play-off against the runners-up in Pool B and the winners of Pool B will play-off against the runners-up in Pool A to determine which two nations will be promoted to Group III in 2019.

Against Myanmar, the UAE were given the lead when Abdulrahman Al Janahi easily defeated Aung Kyaw Naing 6-1, 6-2 in the first singles.

Then Fahad Janahi made it 2-0 with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over Aung Myo Thant before the due of Abdulrahman Al Janahi and Fares Al Janahi defeated Aung Kyaw Naing and Tin Myo Wai 6-0, 6-3.

Meanwhile, in Pool B Singapore continued their winning spree in a 3-0 verdict against Mongolia.

In the first singles, Roy Hobbs defeated Baatar Oyunbat 6-2, 6-1. Shaheed Alam won 6-0, 6-1 against Munkhbaatar Badrakh in the second singles. In the doubles, Yuan-Xiong Hui and Hao Yuan Ng defeated Tamir Ankhbayar and Temuugei Enkhsaikhan 6-1, 6-0.

Singapore are the only undefeated team in Pool B and are on top ahead of Bahrain and Guam, who defeated Tajikistan (3-0) and Turkmenistan (3-0) respectively, for their second wins.
