The chairmen of the six GCC football associations along with chiefs of Yemen and Iraq decided on Saturday that Qatar will host the 23rd edition of the Gulf Cup.

The regional football extravaganza is expected to be held from December 2017-January 2018.

However, the exact schedule will be announced later.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the eight heads of the associations in Doha, Qatar. During the meeting, Qatar Football Association president Sheikh Hamad al Thani was elected as the chairman of the newly-formed Football Federation of the Gulf Cup.

The headquarters of the new federation will be based in Doha.
