The 21-year-old partnership between Qatar Tennis Federation (QTF) and ExxonMobil has contributed a great deal to the development of the game of tennis in the country, besides boosting Qatar as a global sports hub, QTF President and Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee Nasser bin Ghanim al Khelaifi has said.
Addressing a press conference on the sidelines of the ongoing 23rd edition of the Qatar Exxon Mobil Open on Monday, Khelaifi said that it was a big honour to have ExxonMobil as the title sponsor of the ATP World Tour tournament which has continued to attract big stars of the tennis world to the country.
"We hope to continue this partnership for a very long time. Over the years, Qatar has proved itself to be a sports capital of the world and I am happy to say that this tournament adds to the long list of world-class events that are organised in the country," he said.
He added it has been through the effort and hard work of many people across multiple local organisations that the federation had been able to host this event so successfully.
Speaking at the event, President & General Manager of ExxonMobil Qatar Alistair Routledge said that the company's two-decade-long sponsorship of the tournament was part of its commitments to supporting the development of sports in the country which, in turn, is part of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
"Through its deeply-valued role in the local community, ExxonMobil believes that one of the most important contributions it can make to Qatar and its citizens and residents is to support a variety of initiatives in several areas of human endeavor, especially sports," he said.
He said that the company takes its role to supply energy seriously and it recognises that it comes with many responsibilities to its shareholders, neighbours, customers and especially the community.
