The Menzah Sports Palace will host a stage of the Senior Women Saber Championship from May 12 to 14, with the participation of 116 players from 27 countries.

The Federal Bureau of the Tunisian Fencing Federation (French: FTE:), chaired by Zeyda Khalsi Doghri, said at a press briefing on Tuesday in Gammarth that "several efforts have been made to win the trust of the international federation and get the organisation of a major tournament after a six-year absence."

"Our objective is to improve the image of Tunisia and to strengthen the confidence placed by the international federation in our country in order to secure the organisation of large events such as the world cadets and juniors championship in 2019 which we are trying to "have the honor of hosting, "stressed the members of FTE.

They later added that "this type of competition will allow the Tunisian players to compete against the world's best fencers."

During this worldwide meeting, Tunisia will be represented by four players: Yasmine Dghfous, Khedija Chamekh and Olfa Hezami, as well as Yosra Gherairi in the senior category. These latter, are participating for the first time in the world cup circuit, whereas Azza Besbès, who is in rehabilitation stage, will not take part in this tournament.

The Tunis tournament will bring together the best players in this specialty, such as the Russian Yana Egoria, world number one, Hungarian Anna Marton 2nd, and French Anon Brunette, world's 3rd, as well as the most competitive countries in team events.
