Southampton have signed Morocco midfielder Sofiane Boufal from Lille for a club-record fee, the Premier League side said Monday.
Southampton didn't disclose the amount paid for the 22-year-old but UK media reports said it was worth 16 million pounds (21 million dollars).
Boufal scored 12 goals in 34 appearances last season to help Lille finish fifth in Ligue 1.
"Southampton showed big interest in signing me, and I can see that this club is the best place for me to continue my progression as a footballer," he said after signing a five-year contract.
Southampton's previous transfer record was 15 million pounds paid to Roma for Dani Osvaldo in 2013.
