Mancini claims Man Utd's outstanding season down to good fortune

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has claimed rival Manchester United's runaway Premier League season is down to good fortune.

Mancini insists that Sir Alex Ferguson has been blessed with so much good fortune this season that it has left United in a false position at the top of the table, the Daily Mirror reports.

The Italian, who has confessed to being extremely superstitious, is also refusing to give up on his team's chances to retaining the title.

Mancini said until now, United have been really lucky with everything, adding they have won a lot of games in the last minute like against us when they really didn't deserve to win.

Mancini added he doesn't think the gap between United and City is correct at this moment, adding they are doing better than them this season, for sure, but they have lost points in games they deserved to win, when they just couldn't score.

The former Inter Milan boss added for this reason, he would say this is the difference, adding last year Man City scored a lot of goals up to this point, and maybe they are missing 10 goals and maybe seven or eight points.

City face Chelsea at the Etihad on Saturday and Mancini's experience of how a title race can turn means he is unwilling to concede the championship to United.

Last season, the Blues overturned an eight-point deficit in the space of four games to pip United by goal difference on the final day of the season, and five years ago, his Inter Milan side almost blew a 14-point lead before clinching the Serie A title thanks to a Zlatan Ibrahimovic double at Parma in their last game.
