Carlos Tevez has reiterated his desire to finish his playing days at boyhood club Boca Juniors, but the Argentinean striker has done a u-turn on his Manchester City career by insisting he now wants to stay at the newly-crowned Premier League champions.

Tevez spent much of last summer trying to force a move away from City, and when he was unsuccessful, the 28-year-old found himself on the bench for the early part of the season.

Tevez’s displeasure at his role at City culminated in the now infamous episode at Bayern Munich when he refused to come on as a substitute, and when he took a five month self-imposed exile, it appeared his career at City was over.

Despite City boss Roberto Mancini insisting Tevez “would never play for the club again”, he was welcomed back to the squad in February after offering an apology to his teammates.

His return to the setup proved crucial in the run-in and he formed an effective partnership with compatriot Sergio Aguero as City won the league on goal difference.

And while Tevez admitted he will always want to end his career at Boca, he has now stated he wants to remain at City beyond this summer.

“My biggest wish is to finish my career in the Boca shirt,” he said. “I am still thinking the same as when I left, I want to retire here.

“Now the fans should enjoy the team's success. I am here for whatever Boca need.

“But I finished the season very happy in England. I am feeling good, I have no desire to leave. My family are happy in England.”

A large section of City supporters have not forgiven Tevez for his antics, believing if he had made himself available all season the club could have won the league title in more convincing fashion.

Moreover, his behavior showed a complete lack of loyalty to the club, something football fans do not take kindly to, and despite his immense talent, many City loyalists feel he only wants to stay now the club have acquired major silverware, and would prefer to see him leave this summer.
