UAE Football Association announced on Monday that they have mutually agreed with Jorge Luis Pinto to step down as the head coach of the national team.
The 67-year-old coach vacates the post just five months after taking charge of the UAE national team last July, replacing Ivan Jovanović.
Colombian Pinto led UAE in three friendly matches during his tenure where they lost against Uzbekistan and Bahrain and defeated Tajikistan in November.
“I had difficult conditions during my period with UAE, including the stoppage of football activities in the country because of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Pinto to the UAE FA website.
“I talked to the officials at the UAE FA and they understood my position and we decided to mutually terminate the contract. I wish UAE all the best and it was an honor to coach their national team.”
UAE are currently fourth in Group G of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 with only two victories from four matches.
